Trans-Cranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy

Recent reports have demonstrated that the contralesional primary motor cortex inhibited the ipsilesional motor cortex via an abnormal transcallosal inhibition in stroke patients. Hence a decreased excitability of the contralesional motor cortex induced by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can cause an improved motor performance of the affected hand in stroke patients. In our hospital we use a specially made Trans-cranial magnetic stimulator to improve motor functions of the affected side. Patient wears a helmet with electromagnetic stimulating device inside.
